What is Professional co-active Life coaching?
Professional co-active Life Coaching is a specific method of designing a peer-relationship between a Life Coach and a client that provides honest feedback, support, accountability and personal growth.
Life Coaching is not therapy. Coaching is for mentally healthy individuals that want to experience and achieve more in their lives.
The gamut of issues covered by coaching can be from starting a business, handling a life transition (job loss, divorce, death, menopause, empty-nest), relationships, spiritual growth, and almost any area that you want to develop that would make your life more balanced and satisfying.
Coaching considers your whole life, because all life aspects affect the whole.
You set the agenda for each session, you determine the level of accountability you want and you work with your Life Coach to design a relationship that is uniquely your own.
Your coach will require you to "play big", which means stretching your comfort zone to increase your confidence.
The coaching relationship is a safe, supportive, confidential setting that encourages personal exploration, and provides unconditional support from a non-judgmental partner.
One of the goals of Life Coaching is to help you become your own best life coach, so you can continue your growth and achievement through life long after the Life Coaching relationship is concluded.
There is a cycle to coaching that is best supported by an initial commitment to yourself of three months of Life Coaching and then a joint decision before deciding to continue.
The coaching relationship can end after three months or continue for as long as needed to satisfy the client.
If the relationship is not productive, or other issues arise I can refer you to another Life Coach or professional that can serve you better. You are in control at all times.
What training have you had to become a certified professional Life Coach?
I took my training from The Coaches Training Institute in San Rafael, California.
I had over 100 hours of coursework training and in-person work shops as basic training.
I proceeded through CTI’s certification program that lasted over six months and consisted of weekly teleconferences, labs, and supervision by qualified coach/instructors of my coaching calls.
To qualify to take the certification exam, I had to accrue documented, paid coaching experience of over 100 hours.
I was approved for a day-long certification test of written and oral examinations, including videotaping of example sessions that were evaluated by the founders and senior instructors at the Coaches Training Institute.
I passed my certification in November of 2001. A requirement of certification was to undergo professional coaching by a CTI-certified coach during my training.
What is the difference between personal Life Coaching and mentor/coaching?
Personal Life Coaching, with me, consists of an initial meeting that helps me to understand you as an individual, what you want to accomplish and how you will achieve it.
Life Coaching is for healthy individuals, it is not therapy.
We will not spend endless hours going over your past, your failures or your perceived limitations.
We will spend each week on topics of your choosing, determining how to approach and accomplish the things you want to accomplish the most.
Life Coaching is between two people and is completely confidential. I will always be on your side and supportive, but I will expect your personal best.
There will be accountability.
There are many Life Coaching tools I know and use to help you to become you own best lifecoach.
Mentor/coaching is a hybrid style of Life Coaching that I use blending the tools and benefits of personal coaching described above with mentoring from an experienced corporate coach with an MBA and a degree in Psychology.
Once again, you are my client, we have a confidential relationship that will not be shared with your company, unless you choose to share it.
The company providing this service to an employee understands that as an individual grows and becomes more authentic, the company and everyone around them can benefit.
The confidentiality provides you with an environment where you do not need to concern yourself with politics.
You can discuss openly and honestly without fear of repercussions.
You determine the topics, the direction, the life goals you wish to pursue, and you are responsible for the outcome.
My experience as a Life Coach and my understanding of corporate life, entrepreneurship, and keeping one's integrity in tact can be immensely beneficial to all levels of business people.
Have no doubt, you will work hard and commit to your own definition of success.
You and your company will also be investing in the one thing that can provide returns for a lifetime.
Are there people you will refuse to coach?
Yes, I have refused to coach people who would be better served by therapy or other professional mental health support.
When a company asks to contract me to coach an employee and asks that I share the content of client sessions with the company, I will not accept a coaching agreement under that requirement.
If, during an initial meeting we don’t seem to have the rapport necessary to support successful Life Coaching, or you will not commit to yourself, I may recommend another Life Coach or another path that may better serve your needs. Your life success is my goal.
